Today was exactly 4 weeks post op. It’s been a really long four weeks. My surgeon said I could get in the water, for no more than 30 minutes, and “splash around.”
As long as I promise to take it easy, I have the go ahead to start building again, taking care not to put too much pressure on my pec muscle too soon, which, apparently, can cause my incision to split open. Rad.I have a cold. I didn’t care. I got in the water slowly. Savoring the feel of water on my toes, my knees. I slid in and gingerly let myself drop to the bottom of the pool. I pushed off the wall, deep, arms by my side, kicking gently underwater, feeling weightless and free. Within the first few strokes, my lower back was already thanking me. After 10 minutes, my right shoulder was screaming her gratitude as she creaked and stretched. And slowly, my soul heaved a huge sigh of relief. It’ll be ok. I’ve done this before. Breathe.
